Hyunhee Doh visualizes a personal experience in time through the repetitive construction and de-construction of senses collected from daily life, repeatedly ‘washing-off’ the hanji surface with powdered pigment and graphite. The process — absorbing colors, wrinkling, leaving traces, and reconstructing the traces — mirrors how an individual reacts, adapts, and transforms within a given environment over time. Through this medium-based exploration, the artist expands the abstract concept of time into a tool for self-exploration, ultimately investigating the fundamental relationship between time and existence.
도현희 작가는 시간의 흐름 속에서 감각과 기억이 축적되고 해체되는 과정을 '수행적 씻어냄'의 반복을 통해 시각화한다. 한지 위에 분채와 흑연으로 색을 입히고 씻어내는 행위는 개인이 시간을 통과하며 주어진 환경에 반응하고 적응하며 변화해 나가는 과정의 투영이다. 물을 머금고 주름지며 흔적을 남기는 한지의 과정적 변화 속에서 생성된 자국들은 표면 위에 일시적으로 머물기도 하고 일부는 축적되어 새로운 형태를 이루어낸다. 지워짐과 쌓임이 반복되며 한지 위에 남은 주름과 흔적, 그리고 그를 재탄생시켜 하나의 새로운 장면으로 만드는 과정은 감각적 변화를 넘어 정체적 변모를 물질 속에 담아내려는 시도이다. 작가는 매체적 탐구를 통해 시간이라는 추상적 개념을 자아 탐구의 도구로 확장하며, 궁극적으로 시간과 존재가 맺는 본질적인 관계를 탐구하고자 한다.
